5 week old Eli

It doesn’t seem possible to already be at week 5.    Besides getting better at his newly acquired skills of lifting up his head, sleeping longer and longer through the night and filling up his diaper for Daddy, Elijah has been exercising his face muscles.  Our little one has begun to smile and talk more than ever before.  He does this at what seem to be his most happy times of just waking up in the morning and his afternoon nap. Sometimes we have little fun conversations and Eli gets so excited that he makes noises and smiles, we love it.  Sometimes we swear he mutters some actual words in there when we least expect it.  Perhaps we are so excited ourselves that we are hearing words.  Just when we thought Eli couldn’t be any more adorable, he smiles and talks to us.  Next on my goals as a dad is to get him to laugh.

Our little one is growing.  Last we checked he had grown an inch.  Not only is his body getting longer but he’s starting to fill out.  His baby chunk is starting to pack on.  With that, Eli’s legs are kicking all the time.  With more belly time his arms have gained in strength as well.  We love to see him being so active.  Sometimes he is at his most active when he is laying on his favorite blanket in his favorite spot, right next to the window. He’ll lay there for 30 minutes or more and just look out the window frantically kicking his legs and making little sweet baby sounds.

Another new milestone for all Brunner men is cleanliness.  Ya know how sometimes it’s inconvenience, bad timing or just pure laziness that keeps you from taking that much needed shower?  Well, it is our hopes that Eli will be the one to break those chains of filth.  He took his first bath and absolutely loved it.  I think he loves the feeling of his little baby body just floating idle in the water.  Tania believes he loved the full body massage as both Mom & Dad rubbed his skin with the baby soap.  Or it could have just been really nice for Elijah to soak it up in the warm water.
