Week ONE

It is official; we have the best baby in the world! The first two nights after his birth, Elijah slept a whole 7 hours! What bliss! I am convinced that Heavenly Father sent me those two nights of sleep as a late Christmas present. After that baby Elijah has been up and about, playing, learning and looking around. He takes little naps here and there, but for the most part he is active and peaceful. He cries like any normal baby, but the best part is that at night he will sleep a good 3 hours, wake and feed, sleep another 3 hours, wake and feed and goes for his last stretch of 3 hours. Not bad! We have gotten the hang of feeding. I’d like to think we deserve prizes for job well done! At first it was hard getting him to latch, but with the help of our midwife and babies being able to mimic he has now opened up and learned how to latch better. If I may give one advice to new moms, it’s don’t give up.

What about his growth? When Elijah was born he weighed 7 lbs 3 oz. On the 3^rd day he had lost his 3 oz, but when our midwife came to visit on his week mark which was January 1^st he had gained 10 oz coming in at 7 lbs 10 oz. HOLY MOLLY! If newborns are good at one thing it’s chowing down! Makes a mama proud! Jared is excited because he is starting to see little baby dimples along his little body :)

 He enjoys being swaddled all tight like a little Texas burrito!

 His little skin has been peeling all over his hands and legs.

 As he wakes he curls up and has a nice tight stretch. Ahhhh, so cute!

 We like to call this, Tree Frog pose. Baby Joaquin loves this pose and he feels so cute all bundled up like a little tree frog in our arms!

These days he sleeps anywhere and loves his arms straight out.
