How do you wrap up a full summer of fun? You post pictures! We've really enjoyed Austin and all the fun weirdos within her city. There's no real order to the mess of enjoyment we had, so here are just a few pictures of some fun things we got to enjoy living the life deep in the heart of Texas!
Judy and Brent graciously welcomed us back into their backyard to enjoy some sea-doo action! That's Jared and me there coming back from our adventurous journey through Travis Lake.
Then they took Cate & Matt and us on a triple date to this fabulously delicious restaurant called County Line. Oh my! It was finger-lickin good!
Here they are getting their hands nice and dirty with some real Texas BBQ! YUM!!
Texas isn't really known for their art, but we sure do enjoy a good museum when we get the chance.
... even if there are risque art pieces.
Have you ever heard of Round Rock Express? I hadn't. They are a minor league team out here. We had a jolly good ol time with some fun friends sneaking in to watch a few innings.
They don't just call it “Live Music Capital of the World” for no good reason. Every weekend there are bands playing on any given stage! Here are a few fun local bands...
The Distant Second
Cruiserweight
Legs Against Arms
Oh No! Oh My!
Our favorite show was put on by Scotland's very own, Camera Obscura!
...this Random band we happen to stumble upon was pretty entertaining! I don't remember their name, but they were a classic rock cover band. The lead here was super hilarious! He was this crazy cool, short Filipino dude that kept throwing his hair everywhere like he was whipping rock out of his extensions! Classic!
What's this you say? This is Blues on the Green. This is a free music series that is put on by KGSR every other Thursday evening in the summers.
You get hundreds of locals to come out, bring their lawn chairs, blankets, enjoying some sweet tunes in a picnic like arena. What's great is that it's completely family friendly w/ niños running around, Frisbees being thrown and dogs laying on blankets that should be occupied by people... ...you see all shapes and sizes...
I'll admit, I took this picture! But there were others doing the same thing! Jared was mesmerized by the size of our view!
Hello Santa!
Jared was creeped out by this person and had to take a picture! He was convinced this was a woman at first.
I just thought this old dude was so cute! I had to scrapbook him :)
You don't just Whip It... You roller Derby! There really is such a thing as TXRD! These girls put on a tough loven showdown.
People here in Austin are all about the natural springs the city has to offer. Right in the middle of down town you can take a dip in a man-made swimming pool that is filled by water from the main Barton Spring, the fourth largest spring in Texas! WoW.
We love coming here whenever we get a chance. You see the strangest people walking around! You get anything from old wrinkly dudes in speedos to topless women (and everything in between). I think we were originally fascinated by the weirdos, but it really is a fun place to go swimming and spend an afternoon. This is also Jared's favorite people sketching spot.
Right across the parking lot of the pool you can find Zilker Park's Hillside Theatre. Every Summer Zilker park puts on a full theatrical production by the community for the Austinites. Last year the Harwards invited us to join them to see the Music Man. This year we kept the tradition alive and were very pleased to see Annie!
We love hanging out with Ali!
Greg and Shawna...
... and Nelson, Judy and Brent. We had a blast!
One of my favorite things about Zilker park and Austin is Town lake aka Lady Bird Lake! This summer I've gotten to go Kayaking every week. Sometimes with Jared, others with kids I work with. It's been a real treat!Every evening starting in May and ending in November hundreds of people gather around on congress bridge to see the bat show. I know, it sounds weird, but it's a long standing Austin tradition where the bats take off for flight.
Unfortunately the night we came we waited around and no bats came out. It was pretty comical actually! Oh well, we'll try again sometime in the fall... I guess this is what it normally looks like when they come out...
How can you not love Austin and all her Summer beauty! This is what you see when you go kayaking down town lake. Love it!
Thank you Austin for being so beautiful to enjoy!
